Piracicaba,  City of Many Charms

Piracicaba is a city located in the center of the Brazilian state of São Paulo, 160 km distant from the capital. Was founded on 01 August 1767. It has an area of 1,368.40 km2 and currently has a population of approximately 380 thousand inhabitants. It is an attractive city, with its natural beauty, with its friendly people, owner of a typical regional language and traditions attached.

The Piracicaba River, which bisects the city, is one of the natural beauties, the scene of numerous events and traditional inspiration for artists of various segments, be they poets, painters, musicians and others. Piracicaba is affectionately called "Bride of the Hill" because of the majestic leap of Piracicaba river.

One of the largest Brazilian producer of sugar cane in 2007 figured in sixth place among the top 10 producers municipalities of the country, with more than 3.8 million tonnes. Besides the cultivation of sugarcane, there are crops of coffee, orange and maize, being quite representative the livestock and poultry.

The industrial complex in the region of Piracicaba is formed by more than five thousand industries, standing out the activities of the metallurgical, mechanical, textile, food and fuel sectors.

In the sector of education, Piracicaba is highlighted by the large number of degree courses at universities of known reputation, as the School of Agriculture Luiz de Queiroz (ESALQ / USP) - the first school of Agricultural Engineering of the country, the Faculty of Dentistry of Piracicaba (FOP -UNICAMP), the Methodist University of Piracicaba (UNIMEP), the Integrated Mary Immaculate College, Foundation Hall of Education (FUMEP), sponsor of the School of Engineering of Piracicaba (EEP) and Salesian Don Bosco School of Piracicaba (UNISAL), the FATEC - School of Technology - Paula Souza Center, and others.

In relation to culture, Piracicaba is inside, with major events such as the International Exhibition of Humor, founded in 1974 with the objective of promoting the mood chart and also reveal new talents. This Fair is held annually in the second half of August in the Engenho Central dependencies and has the participation of major Brazilian and foreign cartoonists and the Hall of Fine Arts, seen as one of the main areas of its kind in the country, is held continuously since its foundation and has ensured the participation of artists from almost all regions of Brazil and has been promoted every year in the month of August; the Contemporary Art Fair, also known as one of the best, with the accession of prominent Brazilian artists in such modality, and is held annually in October.

The city has an association of artists, entitled Piracicabana Association of Plastic Artists - APAP, which currently has about 140 artists involved. The Apap promotes some official exhibitions, such as Almeida Junior Show, held annually in May and presented spring shows in September, or during the season of spring, in addition to the shows Recantos that happens annually.

The schedule of events of the council is quite extensive, but we can highlight the most prestigious and visited, the staging of the Passion of Christ, with daily shows during the Holy Week, the Festival of Nations, where assistance entities represent the culture, music and cuisine from different countries - this festival happens every year in May, the Feast of the Holy Spirit held on the banks of the Piracicaba River, the Feast of St. John of Tupi, the Green Corn Festival, the Festival of Polenta, the Festival of Cassava, the Buoys Walk, the Balon Championship, the SIMTEC - International Symposium and Exhibition of Technology of the Sugar and Alcohol Industry to be held in July, the Festival de Amateur Theater, the Handicraft Fairs and many other events that attract not only the public of the city and region, as throughout the state and country.

In the area of communication Piracicaba has several radio stations, TV and newspapers.

Piracicaba,  Cidade  Noiva da  Colina

Piracicaba é uma cidade brasileira situada no centro do estado de São Paulo, distante 160 km da capital. Foi fundada em 01 de agosto de 1767. Conta com uma área de 1.368,40 km2 e tem atualmente uma população aproximada de 380 mil habitantes. É uma cidade atraente, com suas belezas naturais, com seu povo acolhedor, dono de um linguajar típico regional e apegado às tradições.

O Rio Piracicaba, que corta a cidade, é uma das belezas naturais, palco de inúmeros eventos tradicionais e inspiração para artistas dos diversos segmentos, sejam eles poetas, pintores, músicos e outros. Piracicaba é carinhosamente denominada “Noiva da Colina” devido ao majestoso salto do rio Piracicaba .

Uma das maiores produtoras brasileiras de cana de açúcar, em 2007 figurou em sexta colocação entre os 10 principais municípios produtores do país, com mais de 3,8 milhões de toneladas. Além da cultura da cana de açúcar, destacam-se as culturas do café, laranja e milho, sendo bastante representativos a pecuária, e a avicultura

O complexo industrial da região de Piracicaba é formado por mais de cinco mil indústrias, evidenciando-se as atividades dos setores metalúrgico, mecânico, têxtil, alimentício e combustíveis.

No setor de Ensino, Piracicaba se destaca pelo grande número de cursos superiores em universidades de renome, como a Escola Superior de Agricultura Luiz de Queiroz (ESALQ/USP) – primeira escola de Engenharia Agronômica do país, a Faculdade de Odontologia de Piracicaba (FOP-UNICAMP), a Universidade Metodista de Piracicaba (UNIMEP), a Faculdade Integrada Maria Imaculada, Fundação Municipal de Ensino (FUMEP), mantenedora da Escola de Engenharia de Piracicaba (EEP) e Faculdade Salesiana Dom Bosco de Piracicaba(UNISAL), a FATEC - Faculdade de Tecnologia - Centro Paula Souza, e outras.

Em relação à Cultura, Piracicaba é privilegiada, contando com eventos importantíssimos, como o Salão Internacional de Humor, criado em 1974, com o objetivo de promover o humor gráfico e também revelar novos talentos. Este Salão é realizado anualmente na segunda quinzena do mês de agosto nas dependências do Engenho Central e conta com a participação de importantes cartunistas brasileiros e estrangeiros; o Salão de Belas Artes, visto como um dos principais espaços do gênero no país,é realizado ininterruptamente desde sua fundação, tem garantida a participação de artistas provenientes de quase todas as regiões brasileiras e vem sendo promovido anualmente no mês de agosto; o Salão de Arte Contemporânea, também tido como um dos melhores, conta com a adesão de destacados artistas brasileiros dessa modalidade , e é realizado anualmente no mês de outubro.

A cidade conta com uma associação de artistas, intitulada Associação Piracicabana de Artistas Plásticos – APAP, que possui atualmente cerca de 140 artistas associados. A Apap promove algumas exposições oficiais, como a Mostra Almeida Junior, realizada anualmente no mês de maio e a Mostra Primavera apresentada no mês de setembro, ou no decorrer da estação da primavera, além da Mostra Recantos que também acontece anualmente.

O calendário de eventos do município é bastante extenso, porém podemos destacar entre os mais prestigiados e visitados, a encenação da Paixão de Cristo, com espetáculos diários durante a Semana Santa; a Festa das Nações, onde entidades assistenciais representam a cultura, música e a culinária de diversos países - essa festa acontece anualmente no mês de maio; a Festa do Divino Espírito Santo realizada às margens do Rio Piracicaba, a Festa de São João de Tupi, a Festa do Milho Verde, a Festa da Polenta, a Festa da Mandioca, o Passeio de Bóias, o Campeonato de Balonismo, o SIMTEC – Simpósio Internacional e Mostra de Tecnologia da Indústria Sucroalcooleira, que se realiza no mês de julho , o Festival de Teatro Amador, as feiras de Artezanato e muitos outros eventos, que atraem não só o público da cidade e da região, como de todo o estado e do país.

Na área da Comunicação Piracicaba conta com várias emissoras de radio, TV e jornais.
