Biography: António Aleixo Cristo (cristopintor) Born in Estombar 1946 (Algarve) From a very young age, António Cristo showed tendencies towards artistic creativity, which drove him to the esthetic investigation he couldn’t find in school. He went abroad in the first half of the 60s and dedicated himself to researching the plastic arts. He worked and traveled in Europe, making study trips to Italy, France, Holland and Scandinavia. It was here in 1972 that he held his first private exhibition, in the Kultur-centrum Galeri of Stockholm, launching an international career showing his works in numerous European, American and Japanese collections. He only returned to Portugal in 1989, taking up residence in Portimão, where he continued with his experimental works in the field of expressionism, along with research in graphic systematizing of small original templates. He competed at an international art fair of Portimão in 1992 (Port’ Arte) and won 1st prize with his entry (the celebrated decomposing wall), and in the same year won 3rd prize in a national contest sponsored by the “Galéria Diária de Notícias, with the work “Remote Times II”. He won the bronze palette in the inter-district competition at the Lapidary Museum Infante D. Henrique. At present, he is continuing his research in the plastic arts with abstract-expressionism on tiles.
